Google Sandbox and what is it all about?[Updated 2018]

Imagine you have cheated during your term papers and your teacher decides to penalize you until the next exam or deduct a few marks from your total. This is exactly what happens and what is generally understood by when Google decides to sandbox a website. The search giant uses close to hundreds of algorithm to constantly keep a lookout for new sites. It seems unfair that new sites have to undergo this test before they can finally rank on Google search pages. But then life is unfair. However on hindsight, this practice is to sieve out the good sites from the spammy ones. And if you are a good content creator you may not even need to worry about all this.

Everything boils down to search engine optimization. Often new websites are eager and desperate to rank high in search results which often leads them to follow black hat SEO strategies. You may think you are doing everything right but Google is keeping a watch and once you violate any of its large number of algorithms. Everyone desires to rank high in search results in a day or two. It takes time to get it. Google SERP (search engine results page) takes time to judge whether the website is original or whether it was set up with a bad intention.

How to prevent getting all sandboxed?

New sites are more prone to getting all sandboxed but there are ways to never get sandboxed at all.

  • Original content:

To this day, content still remains the king and nothing makes Google happier than reading content that is original and plagiarism free. So write more and surely but slowly you can expect to get up higher in searches for your unique content.

  • Quality Links:

Backlinks matter when it comes to Google ranking. The more backlink a site has, Google reads them to be more genuine and trustworthy. But don’t think for minute that you can fool Google by leaving spammy links to different sites in the hopes of getting backlinks. This is what makes you eligible for sandboxing. So when you are starting out with a new site, comment on sites and leave links so that you slowly but gradually get back quality backlinks.

  • Good host:

Getting a good host for your website is one of the better ways to make sure that your website is off to a good start. Hosting on subdomains is one of the best ways to quickly rise up in search results without getting boxed into anything.

  • Social sharing:

One of the better ways to prevent getting waitlisted or penalized is to think outside of Google and try to increase your presence on social media channels. Getting more followers, likes and mentions on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms can also help you to quickly rise up in search results.

Even a website owner practicing good SEO, writing authentic content and doing everything by the book may hit a wall and the website may still lag behind in search results. Though Sandbox is still a hush affair as Google has never pointed it out themselves, it does exist as more and more new websites get hit with the sandbox. The only way to avoid this penalty is to follow good SEO and even if you are sandboxed, then wait it out and never resort to spammy means.
